Desc: Opening Night: Directed by Dan Guntzelman. OPENING NIGHT is a feature length (82 minutes) documentary about a community (amateur) theater that has been around for over 60 years producing live entertainment for their Westchester, California neighbors. On the edge of the landing pattern of LAX, the Kentwood Players are kind of a throwback -- an old fashioned community within the mega world of Los Angeles -- a small town island with small town meetings and goals and events that its members can influence and shape and control. More than that, The Kentwood Players is an escape from -- lets just say -- sometimes non inspiring jobs and demanding careers. It is the one place where its members can perform, design, stage and dream. OPENING NIGHT captures this through the rehearsal process leading up to their production of the quintessential American musical, Li'l Abner. And it does so with no small debt to jazz great David Benoit who composed the original score.
